Side Excursions
 |
Most people find staying in Bourg for the duration is just right (there's lots to do - even skiing, left, - 365 days a year on th e glacier), but for real petrol heads, there are a couple of side options, although these are likely to be unsupported events, at the participant’s own expense. (I can set these up from Bourg if there are any takers)
1. Ride down to the Cote D’Azur. The Mediterranean is only 250 miles away, however, if you choose a high altitude mountain route there, it will take you all day. Have a dip in the sea, stay overnight, then come back the next day.
2. Have a trip down to the Gorges du Verdon – the deepest gorge in Europe – about 2000 feet to the river below.
3. Take a full day’s ride out into Italy, riding the Simplon Pass to arrive at the Italian Lakes area. Camp overnight by the beautiful Lago D’Orta and return to Bourg the next day.
4. On the July 2003 trip – 2 disappeared to Monte Carlo as a side trip, and 2 rode over into Italy to celebrate the night of their Wedding Anniversary in Susa.
