Changes from Nov 2004

I’ve done this a number of times now, made my own observations and noted comments from guests. As a result, I’ve made slight changes to previous trips. These are….

We’re probably going to reduce the amount of off-road work a little (although, as soon as you leave the main road, it turns to dirt – so this can easily be reversed if we get eager-beaver advanced riders!).
We’re going to spend proportionately a little more time in the south of the MHS loop and search out some more trails or attractions.
The Bangkok stay will be an option at the END of the trip (rather than the start, as in previous tours), so people can take it or leave it, and the core trip will get straight to Chiang Mai and the trails.
Although, it can always be an option, we will not deliberately plan to stay in very basic Lahu-style huts, with no water, electricity or any facilities. Although for me, this experience is really one of the most memorable aspects of an “adventure” trip, some guests have baulked at staying in bamboo huts amongst the pigs, chickens and buffalo of a local hill-tribe village.
One guest suggested more road oriented bikes, with road-type tyres. This can be an option (tell me if you prefer this), but for me this would remove the ease with which we can access more remote locations on rough trails.
