Tip 2, Helmets

click to see larger image A road helmet, be it open face or full face, such as the one you wear in the UK will suffice, BUT a moto-x design is much better for these reasons, particularly in a hot climate.

1. They are usually lighter.
2. They are better ventilated (it's hot remember, and trail riding can be quite physical)
3. Goggles work better with moto-x designs
4. A peak is usually fitted, to shade your eyes from the sun, but if you dip your head forward slightly, the peak also guards your face against mud or gravel thrown up by the rider in front of you.

A good moto-x helmet in the UK is going to cost £80-100 upwards.

You may wish to consider buying one in Thailand. Most of us bought ours in Chiang Mai last time, as you can buy "top of the range" ones for less than £20. An example is pictured left.

BUT - although they offer a good degree of protection, they may not be built to European or American standards, and certainly are not BSI or kite marked.

Therefore, they are not authorised for road use, or competition use, on your return to the UK.
