We pick up our hire bikes in Chiang Mai.

These will be dual purpose bikes capable of tackling dirt trails as well as paved twisty mountain roads.

In January 2003 we used Honda XR & XLR 250s and a couple of Yamaha TTR 250s.

There are road bike options as well.

There is not a tremendous choice in Chiang Mai - we use what is available. I've also hired two-stroke trail bikes before, and they have been a lot of fun. But, for the longer distances the 4-strokes are a better option.

In recent years (to late 2005) all bikes have been variations of the Honda XR250 Enduro bike.

The bikes are still mainly Honda XR250s, although there are occasional variations.
