The Sun Inn
Neslted in a beautiful setting at the Western end of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, the village of Dent hosts two fine Inns providing great food & beer as well as accommodation.
Technically, Dent is now in Cumbria, but anyway, it makes an excellent base for exploring either the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District National Parks.
In my opinion, this 17th Century Inn is one of the more interesting places to stay in the Dales. It's a far cry from a Holiday Inn (thank God), and the 4 rooms are not en-suite, but it's homely, quaint, and has a real feeling of character and it's just how a pub should be. It's not everybody's cup of tea however. Londoners proceed with caution.
The Double / Twin and even triple rooms are good value for money, although fussy folk, who'd be better off in a Holiday Inn actually, should perhaps look elsewhere.
The Sun is the better pub, but the George offers you plusher en-suite rooms and a restaurant, for those with slightly fatter wallets.

Dent makes an excellent base for hill walking, mountain biking, caving and trail riding (unless Alun Michael kills that one off).

For an alternative opinion on the pub, see here http://www.greatbeer.co.uk/cumsuin.htm This is a nice, independent write-up on the pub. Real people, writing about real places, with no axe to grind or vested interest. Isn't the Internet great most of the time?

Going away for the weekend? You can check out the local, online, before you arrive. |
