I use a company just outside London for most of my bike rental needs now.

They now have a wide range of bikes, from "twist & go" 125cc machines, through to mid-range 600s and "all-rounders" (Fazer 600, Fazer 1000, R6, CBR600 etc.) to full on sports machines such as GSXRs and Ducati 999 & 1098.  Thery also ahave a BMW 1200 GS for adventure touring, and the Honda VFR.  They will also have a Harley on the fleet for 2008.  They can also supply soft luggage for most of their machines.

Mention Bike Tours UK, and they will be especially helpful in picking you up from the local station, and perhaps suggesting (even booking?) some overnight accommodation for you if needed.
