Like many of my customers, I started biking in the late 70s. Things were different then. That's me on my first trip to the South of France, in 1978, taken at Cavaliere. I've still got that Triumph 650. Look at the "safety" clothing (ha!) and that sophisticated luggage system. Hey, do you remember Desert Boots? Is there even a trace of a six-pack there?
I tread my own path with the Bike Tours thing. I didn't copy anyone else, I just felt like doing this, so I did. It started because I used to organise holidays for groups of mates; ski trips, kayaking tours, climbing trips, biking adventures etc. It's still done on the same lines to be honest. Informal, and as little red tape as possible. I write my own website, and yes, it can be rambling, opinionated and verbose. But it's only one click to escape. You don't have to be here!
I don't dress up my tours and describe them in fluffy language. I don't promise what I maybe can't deliver. I don't say I'm "The Best" or I offer "Premier Quality" tours, because that's so subjective and impossible to prove anyway.
This website is comprehensive, detailed, not "hard sell", and hopefully informative. Perhaps even a tiny bit interesting in parts.
Here's what other people have said about my website;
"hey, I think you've gone over the top there. Been a little harsh on people. Perhaps tone it down a little"
"it comes across as all about partying and beer with the lads"
Really?
"Are we just the pain in the ass, that pays for your holiday, because that is what comes out of your note and website. Sorry, but I call it, like I read it" True feedback.
Ooops, another offended American. My reply was, "if that's the impression you get from my website, and don't like it, then don't join one of my trips, 'cos you won't like it"
Actually, these tours were orginally set up just to cover my costs and give me a free trip. I'm afraid though even as a "lifestyle business", I have to make a bit more cash now, just in order to keep going, and pay EMAP's wages.
"Your website is a cracker, I’m sure it appeals straight away to the more serious motorcyclist i.e. no bull and no condescending glossy sales pitch"
Ah, someone sees the point of it - that's what is intended. Thanks. |
