The new Bonneville wouldn't be the first bike I'd choose for a thrash down to the Alps and back, but a guy came along with one in July 2003, and he returned again in October with his mate on yet another Bonnie!

And guess what? Neither of them broke down or even leaked oil!
In the very early days (1978 - omigod!), I used to do this trip on my 1969 Bonneville. I rode to the South of France twice on this bike - but it failed to get me back again on both occasions. Can you say, "big end seizure?"
