BMW have been riding the crest of a wave in the last few years, due largely to the wide appeal of the Long Way Round / Long Way Down programmes.
I 've always liked the "Adventure Bike" kind of thing; road biking forms part of what I do, but I always like to deviate from the beaten track, and I enjoy my trail riding. Clients say, "Bill's tours have that certain Farmyard Factor!"
Anyway, the upshot is there's been a surge of interest in more adventurous tours and touring publications.
Here'a another such book. A guy travels through South America on a GS. I've not had chance to read it yet, but it looks to be a good read. If anyone out there has already read it, send me your comments. If you'd like to buy a copy, click here
It's written by Nik Bosely, AKA "Boz". He's from Essex as it happens. You can read more about him here on his own website.
OTHER adventure bikes are available, as you well know... like KTMs :)
I finally read the book. It's alright. But to be brutally honest, I preferred Dan Walsh's book, "These are the things that should happen to you". That's more my style. I wanted to quote a really pertinent bit to you, but my mate still has my copy!
The essence of it though is, IMHO - there are two kinds of motorcyclist (read Zen & the Art); Those who buy the best kit they can (some would argue a BMW, and others would not), with all the matching gear, and all the gadgets and gizmos, and make exhaustive lists of what they should take, and plan the trip to its last detail.
Then, there's Dan - who just does it. I know which camp I fall into. |
