Nottingham
|
Most trips start and finish in Nottingham. There are several good reasons for this:
• It's a typical British city, large enough to provide a wide range of facilities for visitors, yet still small enough to get around easily on foot.
• It has some good pubs, including the oldest one in England (built 1189AD), and can provide a bit of nightlife at the beginning or end of your stay.
• It even has a castle and is home to the legend of Robin Hood.
• But, at the end of the day, I live here and can source my rental bikes from a couple of bike dealers around the city. |
I usually accommodate my guests in either a modest hotel or guesthouse, or a slightly more upmarket business class hotel in West Bridgford. It's a pleasant suburb, just a mile from my house. The beauty of it, is that it's NORMAL! Just an ordinary little English town on the outskirts of Nottingham. No tourist traps. As a start or end to your tour of Britain, it's a nice little place to spend a night.
I will normally take my guests into Nottingham though, for a quick pint at Ye olde Trip to Jerusalem. The oldest pub in England, pictured right. |
