France

I spend a lot of time in France.  I've been visiting regularly since 1973 I think!  I speak the language and love the place.  Why?

Compared to UK, there's

Twice the space and only same number of people.

There's a much wider range in topography, geographical features and even climate. (Ski in the morning, lay on beach in afternoon kind of thing)

The roads are better, and quieter, and speed cameras are almost unknown.

There are no speed cameras. (they're coming in, but I haven't seen ANY yet).  Update, they have one in Moutiers, in the tunnel now, and one on the approach to Chamonix.

Another update - Easter 2006 - I got flashed on the Dijon ringroad!   The dastardly French are putting the cameras in a different place to ours.  The cameras sit at about head height, not at the roadside (like the UK) but between the two carriageways.  Forward facing - they give you quite a blinding flash in the eyes.

Wine & beer are cheap (in supermarkets, not in bars).

Eating out is good value.

Hotel prices are reasonable.

The weather is better (South).

The scenery is great, once you get South of Dijon.

I'm about to start adding links to places of interest.

There a number of Hotels and Gites who have asked to appear in this section.  Within reason, I'll start to add them to th eright hand margin of this page.  Just click to open them up.
