I spend a lot of time in France. I've been visiting regularly since 1973 I think! I speak the language and love the place. Why?
Compared to UK, there's twice the space and only same number of people.
There's a much wider range in topography, geographical features and even climate. (Ski in the morning, lay on beach in afternoon kind of thing)
The roads are better, and quieter, and speed cameras are used far less.
Wine & beer are cheap (in supermarkets, not in bars).
Eating out is good value and cuisine is exquisite. WAS good value, the exchange rate isn't brilliant from 2008 onwards.
Hotel prices are reasonable.
The weather is better (South).
The scenery is great, once you get South of Dijon.
